GENESIS.

Following a communication in which Dr. Demeure gave me very wise counsel about modifications to be made in the book Genesis, for its reissue, which he urged me to attend to without delay, I said to him:

The sale, so rapid up to now, will doubtless cool off; it was an effect of the first moment. I do indeed believe that the fourth and fifth editions will be harder to exhaust. Even so, since a certain amount of time is needed for the revision and the reprinting, I must not be caught unprepared. Could you tell me roughly how much time I have to deal with this. Answer. — That revision is a serious task, and I advise you not to be too slow in beginning it. It will be better for you to have it ready in advance than for them to be waiting on you. Yet do not hurry too much. Notwithstanding the apparent contradiction of my words, you certainly understand me. Set to work from now on, but do not devote excessive time to it. Do it at a fitting pace; the ideas will present themselves to you more clearly and your body will gain by tiring itself less. You must, however, count on a rapid exhaustion of the volumes. When we told you that this book would be a great success among those you have had, we were referring at once to philosophical and material success. As you see, our predictions were correct. It is important that you be ready at any moment; things will happen more rapidly than you suppose. NOTE. — In a communication of December 18, it had been said: It will certainly be a great success among your successes. It is remarkable that, with an interval of two months, another Spirit repeats exactly the same words, saying: When we told you, etc. That word we proves that the Spirits act in concert and that, sometimes, one alone speaks for many.
