Spiritist Review — 1869 · Allan Kardec
Chapter 1 of 122
Notice.
With this volume ends the period during which the Spiritist Review was under the direct responsibility of the Codifier.
When death took him on March 31, 1869, in addition to the published fascicles, referring to the months of January through March, the April issue of that same year was already at the press, which Kardec had written in its entirety and which he would not come to see with the eyes of the flesh. Although our initial intention had been to translate only the first four months of 1869, we found it interesting that readers should become acquainted with the last tributes paid to Allan Kardec, the speeches delivered at the tomb in the cemetery of Montmartre, where he was interred, the repercussion of his death in the Parisian press, and the posthumous communications he gave at the Spiritist Society of Paris. Furthermore, to show readers the providential action of Madame Allan Kardec in those difficult times, including in the founding of the Joint-Stock Company of Spiritism which, although constituted on commercial bases, aimed solely at the dissemination and strengthening of Spiritism. The present collection of the Spiritist Review will be enriched, later on, by a biobibliographical index and a thematic index, so as to allow our readers quick, reliable, and objective consultation of the subjects treated therein. [This index already exists; consult the Online search system of the Spiritist Review.]
