The struggle of Spirits to return to good
Thank you, dear brother, for your compassion toward one who expiates through suffering the faults committed; thank you for your good prayers, inspired by your love for your brothers. Call upon me sometimes; it will be a meeting I shall never fail to attend, rest assured. I said, in a communication given at the Society, that after having suffered I would be permitted to come and give my opinion on certain questions with which you are occupied. God is so good that, after having imposed upon me the expiation through suffering, He took pity on my repentance, because He knows that if I failed, it was through weakness, and that pride is the child of ignorance. I am permitted to instruct myself, and if I cannot, like the good Spirits who have left the Earth, penetrate the mysteries of Creation, I can study the rudiments of universal science, in order to progress and to help my brothers to progress as well. I shall tell you of the relationship that exists between the state of the soul and the nature of the fluids that envelop it in each environment in which it is momentarily placed. And if, as you have been told, the pure soul cleanses the fluids, believe well that impure thought vitiates them. Judge what efforts the Spirit who repents must make to combat the influence of those fluids by which he is enveloped, increased still further by the gathering of all the evil fluids that the perverse Spirits bring to him, in order to suffocate him. – Do not believe that it is enough for me to wish to better myself in order to expel the prideful Spirits who surrounded me during my stay on Earth. They are always near me, seeking to retain me in their unhealthy atmosphere. The good Spirits come to enlighten me, to bring me the strength I need to struggle against the influence of the evil Spirits, then withdrawing and leaving me to my own forces, to struggle against evil. It is then that I feel the beneficent influence of your good prayers, for, without knowing it, you continue the work of the good Spirits from beyond the grave. As you see, dear brother, everything is linked together in the immensity; we are all interdependent with one another, and there is not a single good thought that does not carry with it fruits of love, of betterment, and of moral progress. Yes, you are right to say of your brothers who suffer that a single word suffices to explain the Creator; that this word must be the star that guides every Spirit, whatever the degree of the spiritual ladder to which it belongs by all its thoughts, by all its acts, in the lower worlds as in the higher; that this word, the Gospel of all the ages, the alpha and the omega of all science, the light of eternal truth, is love!
Love of God, love of one's brothers. Blessed are those who pray for the brothers who suffer. Their trials on Earth will become light, and the reward that awaits them will be beyond their expectations!…
As you see, dear brother, the Lord is full of mercy, since, despite my sufferings, He permits me to come and speak to you in the language of a good Spirit.
