Spiritist Review — 1866 · Allan Kardec
Chapter 91 of 93
The dogmas of the Church of Christ explained by Spiritism,
The subject of this book presented a dangerous reef, which the author prudently avoided, by abstaining from treating the questions that are not on the order of the day, and on which Spiritism has not yet been called to pronounce itself. Since Spiritism admits as incontestable principles only those that have received the sanction of the general teaching, the solutions that may be given on questions not yet elaborated are no more than personal opinions of men or of Spirits, susceptible of receiving later the contradiction of experience. These premature solutions could not compromise the responsibility of the Doctrine, but they could mislead public opinion, by making it believed that it accepts them. This is what Mr. Boltinn understood perfectly, for which we congratulate him. For this reason his book can be accepted by Spiritism and placed in the roll of works called to render service to the cause. It is written with prudence, moderation, method, and clarity. One sees that the author made a thorough study of the Holy Scriptures and of the theologians of the Latin and Greek Churches, whose words he comments upon and explains like a man who knows the ground on which he treads. His arguments have the force of facts, of logic, and of concision. May the book of our brother from Russia be welcome among us. It is thus that, in the name of Spiritism, all peoples give one another their hands. UNION SPIRITE OF BORDEAUX.
