Letter from Mr. F. Blanchard to the Journal Liberté.

We are asked to insert the following letter, addressed to the editor-in-chief of the journal Liberté.

“Sir, “No doubt the columns of a journal must be filled, but when that ornament is full of insults directed at those who do not think as your editors do, at least what was written in that mediocrity concerning the Davenport brothers, Monday’s issue, one is permitted to find it bad to give one’s money to those who do not fear to treat you as a fool, an ignoramus, etc. Now, I am a Spiritist and I give thanks to God. Thus, when my subscription to your journal expires, rest assured that it will not be renewed. “Your paper bears a sublime title; do not, then, give the lie to that title, and know that this word implies respect for the opinions of each person. Do not forget, above all, that Liberty and Spiritism are absolutely the same thing. Does this synonymy astonish you? Read, study this doctrine which seems to you so black; then you will be able to render a service to Truth and to Liberty, which you brandish so high but which you offend.” Florentin Blanchard, bookseller, in Marennes.

“P. S. – If my signature does not appear to you very legible, the seal that closes this letter will enlighten you.”
