This year a cause of suffering has come to be added to the rigors of winter, which is advancing by great strides. Doubtless the solicitude of the authorities has never shown itself more intelligent and more provident than in this latest invasion of the scourge, with regard to those it struck; promptness and wise distribution of medical aid and other assistance, nothing was lacking. It is a justice that everyone takes pleasure in rendering to them. Thus, thanks to the measures taken, its disastrous effects were rapidly circumscribed; but it leaves in its wake cruel traces of its passage among the poor families, and the most lamentable are not those who succumb. It is above all there that private charity becomes necessary. The statement of the sums received and their distribution are submitted to the oversight of the Spiritist Society of Paris.
