Chapter 75 of 102
Plurality of inhabited worlds
Our readers will recall a booklet, under the same title, published by Mr. Flammarion, of which we gave notice, with the due praise it deserves, in the Spiritist Review of January 1863. The success of the pamphlet led the author to develop the same thesis in a more complete work, where the question is treated with all the development it admits, from the standpoint of Astronomy, Physiology, and Natural Philosophy. In this work abstraction is made from Spiritism, of which it does not speak, and for this very reason it addresses itself as much to unbelievers as to believers. Since, however, the plurality of inhabited worlds is intimately connected with the Spiritist Doctrine, it is very important to see it consecrated by Science and Philosophy. In this respect, the extraordinary and learned work has its appointed place in the library of Spiritists. It is from the same point of view, that is, apart from the revelation of the Spirits, that the important question of the plurality of existences will be treated, in a work now in press, published by Messrs. Didier & Cie. The name of the author, known in the scientific world, is a guarantee that his book will be equal to the subject.
