Chapter 86 of 148

The future

Spiritism is the science of all light; happy the society that puts it into practice! Only then will the golden age, or, rather, the era of thought reign among them. And do not think that on this account you will have fewer earthly compensations; quite the contrary, all will be happiness for you, because in that time light will make you see the truth under a more pleasing radiance. What men will teach will no longer be that captious science, which makes you see, under the deceptive mask of the general good, or of a good to come, in which often the masters themselves have no confidence, falsehood and cupidity, the will to have everything, for the profit of a sect and, sometimes even, for the profit of a single one. Certainly men will not be perfect; but, then, the false will be so restricted, the wicked will have so little influence, that they will be happy in their minority. In those times, men will understand work and all will attain wealth, because they will not desire the superfluous except to do great works for the profit of all. Love, this word so divine, will no longer have the impure meaning you attribute to it. All personal sentiment will disappear before that teaching so gentle, contained in these words of Christ: Love one another, as yourselves. Having arrived at this belief, you will all be mediums; all the vices that degrade your society will disappear; all will become light and truth. Egoism, this gnawing worm that retards progress, which suffocates all fraternal sentiment, will no longer have dominion over your souls; your actions will no longer have cupidity and lust for their motive; you will love your wife, because she will have a good soul and will love you, discerning in you the man chosen by God to protect her weakness; you will both help each other to bear the earthly trials and you will be the instruments devoted to the propagation of beings destined to better themselves, to progress, in order to reach better worlds, where, by a labor still more intelligent, you will reach our supreme benefactor.

Go, Spiritists! Persevere; do good for the sake of good; gently scorn the mockers; remember that all is harmony in Nature, that harmony is in the superior worlds and that, in spite of certain strong Spirits, you too will have your relative harmony.
