Chapter 53 of 148

Remorse and repentance

I am content to see that you gather together by the same faith and by the love of God Almighty, our divine Lord. May He guide you always in the good path and fill you with His benefits, which He will do if you make yourselves worthy.

Love one another always, as brothers; lend one another mutual aid, and may the love of neighbor not be for you a word empty of sense.

Remember that charity is the most beautiful of the virtues, and that, of all, it is the most agreeable to God; not only that charity which gives an obol to the unfortunate, but that which leads you to have compassion for the miseries of our brothers; that makes you share their moral sorrows, alleviate the burden that oppresses them, in order to make their pain less keen and their life easier. Recall that sincere repentance obtains the pardon of all faults, so great is the goodness of God. Remorse has nothing in common with repentance; remorse, my brothers, is already the prelude of the punishment. Repentance, charity, faith, will lead you to the felicities reserved for the good Spirits. You are going to hear the word of a superior Spirit, well-beloved of God. Collect yourselves and open your heart to the lessons he will give you.

A Guardian Angel.
