Chapter 33 of 148
Love and liberty
God is love and liberty. It is through love and liberty that the Spirit draws near to Him. Through love it develops, in each existence, new relations that bring it closer to unity; through liberty it chooses the good that brings it closer to God. Be ardent in propagating the new faith; may the holy ardor that animates you never lead you to encroach upon the liberty of others. Avoid, by means of too great an insistence upon proud and fearsome incredulity, exasperating an existence half conquered and on the verge of yielding. The reign of violence and oppression is over; that of reason, of liberty, and of fraternal love is beginning. It is no longer through fear and force that the powerful of the Earth will henceforth acquire the right to direct the moral, spiritual, and physical interests of the peoples, but through love and liberty. Abelard.
