Chapter 5 of 64
MY PROTECTING SPIRIT.
Question (To the Spirit Z.) — In the world of Spirits, is there one who may be a good genius to me. Answer — Yes.
Q. — Will it be the Spirit of some relative, or of some friend?
A. — Neither the one nor the other.
Q. — Who was he on Earth?
A. — A just man of great wisdom.
Q. — What must I do to win his benevolence?
A. — All the good you can.
Q. — By what signs shall I be able to recognize his intervention?
A. — By the satisfaction you will feel.
Q. — Shall I have any means of invoking him, and what is that means? A. — To have living faith and to call upon him insistently.
Q. — Shall I recognize him, after my death, in the world of Spirits? A. — Of this there can be no doubt; it is he who will come to receive you and to congratulate you, if you have well fulfilled your task. NOTE. — One sees, by these questions, that I was still very much a novice regarding the things of the spiritual world.
Q. — Does the Spirit of my mother come to visit me sometimes?
A. — She comes and protects you as much as she can.
Q. — I see her frequently in dreams. Is it a memory and an effect of my imagination? A. — No; it is indeed she who appears to you; you ought to understand this by the emotion you feel. NOTE. — This is perfectly exact. When my mother appeared to me in dreams, I felt an indescribable emotion, which the medium could not have known.
Q. — When, some time ago, we evoked S. and asked him whether he could be the protecting genius of one of us, he answered: “Let one of you show himself worthy of it, and I shall be with that one; Z. will tell it to you.” Do you think that I may merit this favor? A. — If you wish it.
Q. — What is necessary for me to do so?
A. — To do all the good you can and to bear the sorrows of life with courage. Q. — By the nature of my intelligence, shall I have the aptitude to penetrate, as far as it is permitted to man to do so, the great truths concerning our future destiny? A. — Yes, you have the necessary aptitude, but the result will depend on your perseverance in the work. Q. — Shall I be able to contribute to the propagation of these truths? A. — Without doubt.
Q. — By what means?
A. — You shall know it later; in the meantime, work.
