ADVENT OF ELIJAH.

— Then his disciples asked him: Why, then, do the scribes say that Elijah must first come? Jesus answered them: It is certain that Elijah is to come and that he will restore all things. But I declare to you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him; rather, they treated him as they pleased. It is thus that they will put to death the Son of Man. Then his disciples understood that it was of John the Baptist that he had spoken to them. (Saint Matthew, chapter XVII, vv. 10 to 13.)

— Elijah had already returned in the person of John the Baptist. His new advent is announced in an explicit manner. Now, since he cannot return except by taking a new body, here we have the formal consecration of the principle of the plurality of existences. (The Gospel According to Spiritism, chapter IV, no. 10.)
