Chapter 46 of 79

Example 6 - PASCAL LAVIC.

— This Spirit, without the medium having known him in life, even by name, communicated spontaneously.

“I believe in the goodness of God, who, in His mercy, will have compassion on my spirit.

I have suffered much, much; I perished at sea. My Spirit, bound to the body, wandered for a long time over the waves. God…”

(The communication was interrupted, and the next day the Spirit continued.)

“… was pleased to permit that the prayers of those who remained on Earth should draw me out of the state of disturbance and uncertainty in which I was immersed.

They waited for me a long time and were at last able to find my body. This now reposes, while the Spirit, freed with difficulty, sees the faults committed, the trial accomplished.

God judges with justice, His goodness extends to the repentant.

“For a long time, the body and the Spirit wandered together, and this was my expiation.

Follow the straight path, if you wish God to facilitate the release of your spirit. Live in His love, pray, and death, fearsome to so many, will be softened for you by the knowledge of the life that awaits you.

I succumbed at sea, and they waited for me a long time. Not being able to detach myself from the body was for me a terrible trial; that is why I need the prayers of those who, like you, possess the saving belief and can ask for me to the God of justice. I repent and hope to be forgiven.

On August 6 my body was found. I was a poor sailor and died long ago. Pray for me.” Pascal Lavic.

Q. Where was your body found? — A. Not very far from you.

— The Journal du Havre, of August 11, 1863, contained the following item, of which the medium could have had no knowledge:

“We report that on the 6th of this month the remains of a corpse were found stranded between Bléville and La Hève. The head, the arms, and the bust had disappeared, but, despite this, its identity could be verified by the shoes still attached to the feet. It was recognized as the body of the fisherman Lavic, who had been swept on December 11 from aboard the ship L’Alerte by a gust of the sea. Lavic was 49 years of age and was a native of the city of Calais. It was the widow who recognized his identity.”

On August 12, as this event was being discussed in the Center where the Spirit had manifested himself for the first time, he again gave, and spontaneously, the following communication:

“I am indeed Pascal Lavic, who has need of your prayers. You can benefit me, for terrible was the trial I underwent.

The separation of my Spirit from the body occurred only after I recognized my faults; and after that, still not entirely detached, I accompanied it in the ocean that had swallowed it.

Pray, then, that God may forgive me and grant me repose. Pray, I implore you. May this disastrous end of an unhappy earthly life serve you as a great teaching!

You must always keep in view the future life, never failing to implore of God His divine mercy.

Pray for me; I have need that God should have compassion on me.” Pascal Lavic.
