The Gospel According to Spiritism
by Allan Kardec
Synopsis
This is the third book of the Spiritist Codification, published in 1864. Ahead of the biblical scholarship of today, the spiritual benefactors explain in great detail throughout this book the true meaning of many of the most known verses of the Gospel, taking into consideration the lore, traditions, and the atmosphere wherein these events originally occurred. It also clarifies the ethical teachings Jesus intended with his words and actions. The chapters reinforce the connection between Spiritism and the direct teachings of Jesus, but rather outside of the religious dogmatic meaning given to them latter on in human history. The book also explores the much earlier teachings of the Greek philosophers Socrates and Plato and how these men touched upon theories Jesus would clarify centuries latter.
